Since when is Dunkin Donuts considered a "real" bakery?

Sugar Bun is and always was the best bakery in Queens. The cheesecake is to die for. I worked in the Sugar Bun in the late 60's early 70's and I remember lines out the door every Sunday morning. Ruby and Herb were my bosses and on Sundays Barbara and Helen (their wifes) worked side by side with us. Geat bakery, great bosses.

Does anyone remember Stahl's Bakery in old HB, it was the very best bakery ever. Best crumb buns, jelly donuts, you name it. And at Christmas time it always displayed a four foot Santa with lightbulbs for eyes in the window. It was always crowded. These others just don't compare.

Stah's Bakery, wonderful German bakery. Sugar Bun Bakery, Jewish Bakery, very very good, Ariola's, Italian pastry store, very good yet could not compare with Severoli's. What I am saying is they all have their own specialties and everyone has his own taste so what's good for you is not necessarily goof for me,lol. I wonder if any of you ever heard of Oxford Bakery. The most delicious real whipped cream covered birthday cakes ever, anywhere! Also was a very good bakery called Boulevard Bakery in Ozone Park, Liberty Ave. next to Kalish drugs. I also remember a wonderful bakery in South Ozone Park, near King Kullen, near Wakefield area. In FL, you won't get that kind of thing anywhere. Mostly all the bakeries are run by Jewish people and only do their style of baking which is fine if you want a blackout cake, babka or mandel bread. I love that but it's not what everyone loves. Even the bagels are different in FL than in NY. I wonder why that is, all of NY is in FL, lol.

What happened to Duval's Bakery near Rockwood Beauty Salon? I guess it couldn't keep up with Sugar Bun.

I've often said that what I miss most about NYC is the bread, have had many people tell me that it is the water in NY that makes the bread different, but we didn't have city water in HB and the bread there was the same as the rest of New York.

No, Johnny, we didn't have city water in old Howard Beach but was the bread baked right there in those bakeries or shipped in from Brooklyn? I lived on both the old and new sides of Howard Beach and on the new side we did have city water.

Irene, good point about where was the bread baked?, in those days I would imagine that it was imported from Brooklyn. I remember that we used to not have to follow water conservation rules when the city was having a drought.

Hmm, no proble, not sure if you're laughing out loud because I got the name wrong, you feel I was presumptuous to check your profile or that I'd be surprised if I knew who you really were. Was going to address you as mystery lady, but decided not to risk a second error.

Sevirolis for a true Bakery experience. BUT...I must say,,,,Downtown Bklyn ( Carroll Gardens) and Royal Crown ( Staten Island) for Bread, Cookies...and Run to Andrews Bakery on Staten Island for their pies and cakes. Crumb Cakes - SugarBun. Nothing else. Come on HB is not really known for a crowd that buys fresh baked bread from a bakery every day. Is it??

Hahahahaha! You already know who I am. I didn't mean to sound sarcastic at all by the "lol". That's what's wrong with these posts. One never knows how the other is really feeling. It's such a cold way of communicating. No problem that you called me Irene or looked at my profile. That's perfectly fine with me. Sorry you had to feel that way. You're a really nice person. I can see that by your posts.
