Just got back from Danny's, and I'll admit he has great food. We usually take-out, but tonight decided to meet freinds for dinner at Danny's. We were seated at 6:40pm expecting our guest at 7:00pm. Our guest were delayed and arrived at 7:20pm. All the time the waiter kept asking us to order before they arrived, and we did order before they came in. The waiter started serving us before our guest arrived and said that the policy is that Danny's does not reserve seating. Meanwhile the resturant had plenty of empty tables and no one was waiting. The waiter became more and more arrogant as the night progressed. My wife ws very upset and wanted to call the manager/owner (Danny) but I did not want to embarass the guest so I kept a lid on things and even left a healthy tip although I felt the service was terrible. I am very surprised at this behavior at Danny's. We enjoy eating out and never had this happen in the twenty years we are together going to various places. Just had to air my experience.

Anyone remember a Chinese place called "China Lane" ? It was there in the late 1960's around 164th and Cross Bay.

I only patronize one Chinese restaurant, and it's not even in Howard Beach. It's in Ozone Park, on Cross Bay Blvd. It's called Golden Way, and it's great. It's a clean place and the owner is very friendly. As for Japanese, there are no "true" Japanese restaurants in our area, and that's a shame. They are all owned and operated by Chinese people. Even Momoyamain Sheepshead Bay is Chinese owned and operated.

Sheepshead Bay! Anyone know if Joe's is still there? Great mussels! The Barge. Golden Gate and of course Lundy's! Those were the days! Went on a boatride there once also. Fun.

It's a shame that Danny's is getting away with such poor service! I am pretty sure that Danny is the same person who owned China Wall years ago. If he is the same man, get a grip, Danny, do better! You were such a nuce guy in the '60's. Your food was great then too. I know how nasty your people are now, I've been there. They have no manners or class. They stand directly behind your seat through the entire dinner, rushing everyone out so that they can make more in tips, resulting in making less tips, I'm sure, because they agravate everyone. They need a little education first before being placed as servers in a nice restaurant, right off the boat. Teach them some American manners! They mean no harm, they are just ignorant.

Don't know the others, only Danny's. Is this Danny the same guy who owned China Wall (which by the way was great) in the '60's? Could never eat in Danny's again, service terrible, was there in 1993. So rude!

I can't believe what I am reading. Horrible service at Danny's? That has never happened to me and my family. When I was little I use to go there with my grandfather all the time. He hung out with Danny back in the day so they knew each other for awhile. He probably knew Danny from China Wall. I wouldn't know I am only 17 but you guys are saying he owned that back in the 60s so that's my guess. Anyway, I love Danny's I have never had a problem there. I always ordered the Triple Crown. The baby shrimp was the best.

Vinny, The food at Danny's was always good. When it was China Wall, the food and the service was the best! I ate there in 1993, when visiting and the service was terrible. The waiter came over and took the order, then about three servers stood behind our chairs waiting for us to put our forks down and grab our plates! You couldn't put your fork down to get a drink, they had the plate in their hand, clearing the table! Then you didn't want it anymore. I don't like to have servers watching me eat. There was no one in the place, we were the only people, it was lunchtime. There was no need for three servers to be taking care of one table! Not one of them smiled all through the meal! It was like they had to do a job and were not happy about it. Anyway, we were so upset that we left a two cent tip to get our point across and will never go back.
