Hi, I have been told that there was once a swimming pool situated in the area where the Lindenwood Shopping Center is now located. Is this true?

The Pool Club was located across the street from PS 232, between 83/82St & 153/155Ave.I was a member back in 1980. Those were the days...

Actually, there were two pool clubs in Lindenwood. One was across from 232 and the other was where the Cloverdale Condos are now - between 156th and 157th and 79th and 81st.

I grew up in Lindenwood from 1965-85, there never was a pool near Cloverdale. From what I can remember from 79th st. there was a dirt road with a burnt out house on 155th Ave. The other pool was around 88th street and 151st Ave.

The "other" pool was, I believe in the area of 155ave.and 89th. st. It was not too far off of South Conduit..kind of at the edge of Lindenwood. I lived on 155 and 81st. from 62-77 and belonged to the pool that used to be across the street from 232...In any event there definitely was not a pool on 155 and 79th., but there was a tennis thingy there at one point.

There were definitely 2 pools. We all agree about one being across from 232. The other was where the condos are, just south of Conduit.

I have lived in Lindenwood for 35+ years , there were 2 ools in our community - one was located opposite PS 232 and the other was located between 88 st and 89 st from 151 ave to South Conduit Ave ..the block leading to the overpass for JHS 202 ..I'm sure of this because I owned a house on that block and we found pool tile in the backyard while excavating LOL

I moved to Lindenwood in 58. Lindenwood consisted of only the 2 "square" blocks ,the garden apts, that were Sections 1 (bordered by 89st,151,153,xbay) and sections 2/2a (bordered by xbay,153,155,89,shore pkwy). Everything else for miles towards Brooklyn was weeds or construction sites. The pool near conduit/88/89 was the only one and it was FREE to residents the first two years. 232 and 202 didn't exist yet. Elementary school was at PS63 on (I think) Sutter ave. on Ozone Pk., which went to the 8th grade. Junior High, if you were in the S.P. (otherwise you went right to Adams in 9th), was at JHS 214 (Conduit and Pitkin in East NY. Tinman

Tinman is correct ... I also moved to Lindenwood in 1958, one of the original residents of Section 2A at 89-36 155th Avenue. I went to PS63 until PS232 was ready. I was just a little kid but I was a good swimmer so I had no problem using the free pool...LOL my dad wasn't too thrilled with whoever owned the pool and managed to jack up the membership rates every single year. Without your "pool pass" you couldn't get in. I had no idea why girls who were already nicely tanned wanted to baby oil themselves and broil in the sun on the chaise lounges without hardly ever diving in.

I remember both pools. I moved to Lindenwood at 88-08 155th Ave. in 1960 and my parents moved in 1986. Great memories.

No the swimming pool was located just behind the building near condiut avenue

just behind the 89- 40 151 avenue building i usee to see it from my back window on the 6th floor. my mom and dad had a lifetime membership but where is it now. under some stores. I heard after we left in 1979, they made stores on it. is that true? what a waste ... by ps 232 is mr. powers still there.. he was the art teacher i wonder how many teachers died by now.
