Can anyone find out which family is the oldest known in Howard Beach and still has some members who live there?

How would you find that out? My parents have lived there since 1961 but I am sure there is older.

Oh yes Dave, it goes back to the '20's or '30's. I guess you would have to check the real estate public records to find out. I've tried doing it online but for some reason, it's not like other areas, it does not come up easily. For example, the property tax records.

We moved there in 1955 and I can think of many families that were there before us, eg Grunbachers(?), Nolan's, Savino's, Barnett's (owned Malone's in 1950's), Dotzler's, Bullocks, Brady's. Did you know Frank or Buzzy O'Sullivan who lived on 158 Ave between 95 & 96 Sts?

My grandparents Edwin and Ruby Anderson moved to Howard Beach in the 1920's I believe. They owned their home on 102 St. for around 70 years. He sold Real Estate in Howard Beach when it was still mostly summer bungelows and then had a Roofing and Siding business with my father. My mother and fathers house was on 160th Avenue and 100 st. on the dead end at the head of the canal. They bought that house in 1952 and mom sold it about 10 years ago and moved to Pennsylvania. I was told that our house was a Real Estate office at one time. It was a wonderful home to grow up in. We always had a boat of some type and could go "killying" and crabbing anytime we wanted to right in our backyard.

It might be the (Pat) Connolly family on 97th Street. Also Mrs. Milna Braton (a former teacher of PS 146) just turned 101 years old!!
