Anyone from OLG between 1960's and early 1970's remember Mrs. Canarazzi, the math teacher. Every kid who left her class knew their times tables off teh top of their tongue. What a tough but dedicated teacher she was.

I remember Mrs. Cannarozzi, she was scary looking. She taught 4th Grade when I was there. I had Sr. Germaine, a really nice nun. Anyone know where she is?

I also had Mrs. Cannarozi if the 4th grade. She had very very long fingernails. They would curve at the tips.

I went to OLG in the lte 70'S early 80'S. I had Sister Anna, Sister Germane and Mrs. Richardson was my science teacher. I would love to hear from Elanor Lopez, Chris Laurita, Johnny DeRiso (Trizzle), Joe Sorrentino (Joe Putz) or anyone else from that class. I lived on Huron street and would love to find Rachel Silverman, Jen Jaro, or Jodi(she lived across the street) I have lost touch with all. If any of you read this please email me! Went to O.L.G. in mid sixties to early 70's and had Mrs. Canarazzi (or is it Canarozzi?) for Math. I will never forget her or those 'times table'quizzes she gave. The quizzes had 50 questions and she jumped all over the place with her tables. She would walk up and down the aisles of the classroom with this timing and cadence you would somehow work into a rhythm. If you were smart (or had an older brother or sister who filled you in) your paper was pre-folded , numbered on each side from 1-25 and 26-50. You would even put in the 'x' and the = sign so all you needed to do was put in the numbers and answer. Some kids would get so frantic during the quiz they would begin to cry. I remember one guy peeing himself. Canarazzi would call the kids crying 'crybabies' and continue with the quiz. Let me tell you, it worked. Everybody knew their 'tables'. I can barely remeber yesterday, but I can still see Canarazzis face, and I'm a whiz at arithmetic. There is a lot to be said about educating with fear, ridicule, and threats. It works. Mrs. Canarazzi- God Bless you wherever you are. Sign me a grateful student.

I had her in 1964. One day the class got her so mad, we had to do for homework that night the 1 to 50 times tables, 10 times each. I can still remember my mom and dad using the old adding machine and working out the tables while I wrote them down. To this day I can still do the 1-12 table as quickly as I did then. Anybody here from the class of 68'? How many of you remember the old air rade drills. For some reason I remember one where we all were in the hall praying the rosary. Some of the girls in my class where crying, the whole situation seemed to real. Try and explain that to my kids today and they have no concept of what it was like to live with the fear of the BOMB. Take care

I graduated from OLG in 1980...James Pizzo, Chris Conway, Diane Connely, Allison Buckley, Emily Kroitz, Patty Palagonia were just a few of my classmates... Wow I remeber Miss Cannarozzi... everyone used to call her Miss Cannonball... I remember the day she fell down the flight of stairs and the big bruise she had on her forehead from it...I believe that is when the cannonball name came into effect... I also had Sister Germaine and Sister Anna... Sister Germaine left the school when I was in the 7th grade I believe... Now who could ever forget Sister Mary Grace and her paddle... I didnt have her, but my sister did and I remember the stories she used to come home with... Ms Ryan was my 7th grade teacher and I had the other Ms Ryan in 3rd grade... scarey thought about that is my dad used to date Ms Ryan(3rd grade) when they were teenagers... She never let me forget it either... Plus she also had my other broter and 2 sisters before me and all I ever heard from her was "why can't you be more like them and I'm calling your dad"... lol... Oh the memories....

I graduated from OLG in '69. Still have great memories of Howard Beach. I moved out in '79, the last relatives I had there moved out about five years ago. I lived on 101st Street, a couple of blocks down from OLG. Thanks for this forum, it got me thinking about a lot of old friends and places we hung out.

Dear Ed-I noticed that you live in New Hyde Park now-so do I. I graduated OLG in 1966 though, and lived on 97th Street between 164th and 165th, down the block from the park.
