I remember the green little annex and Sr. Cornelia teaching the little ones of which I was one at the time. We used to play store with empty food boxes in a large room in the one floor, green building. I don't remember there being any desks in that room. There were shelves with the fake groceries on them. Sr. Cornelia was trying to teach us how to shop. We'd pair off in couples and play like we were married and going shopping together. She was a great teacher. Always smiling. I remember her handkerchief and shined shoe inspecions. For the girls, the handkerchief had to be folded and pinned on the dress and for the boys, the shoes had to be shined. Now kids go to school like slobs. Excuse my espression but it's true.

I graduated from OLG in 1965, then from Molloy in 1969. I started in the little school while I believe they were building the 3rd floor on top of the main school. I remember Father Harty, yes, and Father Funaro who was a good friend. He let my horrible rock band play at one of the OLG school dances, as long as we agreed to play "Hang On Sloopy" which was his favourite song at the time. My family still lives there so I come up to visit at least once a year.

Have been surprised since I became active on this site that no one ever seems to mention Father(s) Smith, Mergler, O'Neill, (can't remember the name of the pastor after Father Harty), Sister(s) Paula, Philomena, Winifred or Mother Superior who was either Philomen or Winifred's biological sister. Winifred did get mentioned here once. Any one remember Joe Torre's sister who used to teach sixth grade? Father Smith took the CCD people to the Alan Freed show once, any body else a part of that outing?

According to news reports back a couple of years, Fr. Smith was a pedophile priest. That's probably why he gets no mention.

I think the pastor after Fr. Harty was Fr. Davis, no? What was Joe Torre's sister's name? Maybe I will remember her. I remember Mother Agnes most of all. She was wonderful!

I remember hearing those names but I think you must have attended in the 1950's, right? My sister was in OLG at that time.

Hi, I'm searching for Dorothy and Cathy Kestner. They were living in the sixties on 164th street in Hamilton Beach. Could anybody tell me what happened to them ?
Thanks, Marshall

Father Harrigan was pastor after Fr. Hardy. Joe Torre's sister is Sister Marguerite. I believe that she still is the principal at Nativity. Joe and she are my mother's cousins.

Yeah, people who think the Blues Brothers' character "The Penquin" is a caricature of Catholic nuns never ran into Sisters Winifred or Paula.

Wow, Eddie Woods. Brings back the memory of he & I going into the Tunnel of Love together on our class trip to Rye playland. No, we didn't kiss. We were both way to shy for that! But I'll bet Kevin McCabe & Jeannie Canner did!

I was working on a contract in Bridgeport, CN from 1995-1998 and took my son to Rye Beach once, I swear it was the same as when we made our class trip in 1957.
