My family has fond memories of the Bow Wow. We used to ride bicycles from our house on Lefferts Blvd in South Ozone Park to Rockaway Beach. (We're talking the mid-1970s.) Sometimes on our way out (or back) we'd stop at the Bow Wow; it was always a treat for us kids (and, I suspect, my parents). It was a sad reality that I was getting older when I learned that the Bow Wow was no more.

Hi there, Years back when my Mom and her sister were single, they would always stop off at a restaurant called "The Big Bow Wow" on their way to Rockaway Beach. She said it was a large establishment that served everything from hamburgers and hot dogs to fried clams. However she can't remember if it was located in Howard Beach or in Broad Channel. Anybody out there remember?

Gina, The Big Bow Wow was on Cross Bay Blvd in Howard Beach.. It was a few blocks before the Cross Bay Bridge on the right hand side.. You can see a picture of the Big Bow Wow in the "Photos" section of this site.

my dad used to always take us kids to the Bow Wow, b/c if you wanted, you could always eat at Pizza City and play in the arcade. i'm only 21 now and still feel sad that there is no kiddyland or bow wow. my dad used to tell me that for a dollar he could get pizza, a coke, two hot dogs and french fries. THOSE days are gone!

I remember when it and Pizza City opened we thought Howard Beach had made the big time. I used to work at Jimmy's Clam Bar right across the street from Pizza City.

My uncle Ralph, and after he passed on, his son, my cousin Ralph, owned the Big Bow Wow, and then later Captain Bligh's wine and cheese cafe just down the block. I used to work at the Bow Wow too, and performed at Captain Blighs. But I think we used to drink more than the place took in!

I remember the great roast beef sandwiches at the Big Bow Wow. They were so tender and especially with the drippings on it and the roasted peppers! That and the macaroni salad, wow! After that you could go to Pizza City for a piece of their Sicilian pizza, second to none!

I remember when they opened up...those great roast beef sandwiches were 60 cents and were really good. It was a great place to hang out too. Spent a lot of time there.

I wrote roasted peppers but actually meant hot cherry peppers, great on that roast beef! They had very good food! I remember a guy who always served the roast beef. Seemed almost like he lived there, haha! He was very fair haired and fair complected. Can't remember his name but a very nice guy. Does anyone remember him?

The Big Bow Wow was the best place to go when I was younger... It was big and had a big arcade... HB needs something like that again... for a while there was Q-Zar but it wasn't the same. It was located in HB not the channel.

The roast beef sandwiches were the best.  I could have lived on them.  Oh great, Now I am starving for a RB sandwich.

I was at the BowWow the day they opened...the first think I had was the roast beef sandwich...and it always was my favorite. I remember, it was 65 cents at that time.

I had a boat for many years at Cliffs, and we'd go down shellbanl basin and dock somewhere near the BowWow, run across crossbay, and get lunch.

It was a great place....I've been away from Queens since 1976, but still miss those roast beef sandwiches.

Does anyone remember when the big bow wow and the rides opened and closed in HB? Someone on the HavenZone forum asked the question and I am trying to find the answer for him. Thanks
