I guess the Mobile station was up further maybe near Metuchen Farms,(Associated Food Store). Anyway, the Texaco station I remember was at the corner of Crossbay Blvd. and 165th Ave. It was owned by a man named Cecil Morash.

Does anyone remember the Balloon Man. He would sell balloons , while standing on the middle island of Crossbay Blvd. He had all sorts of balloons hanging off his body. Text Edited by - CATHY on June 01 2006 10:12:23 PM

Do you mean in the 80's? There was a man who used to walk up and down the Blvd with balloons. I heard he was hit by a car ...

I worked at Metuchens from 1966-1970. Owned by Mrs. Sugar and her son Bob. No bigger pains in the a__ than those two.

Gerri.... Glad someone else remembers Strawgate pharmacy and Metz's dry good store besides me. I did not know about the actor son of Mr. Mrs Metz. Do you remember the first Pizza place in HB. It was over by the train station and before that it was a chinese laundry. Used to pass it on the way to OLG.

Wasn't Nick's the first pizza place in HB? It was right down the street from OLG, on the way to the train station. Great meatball subs! Don't remember when it was a Chinese laundry. What is now across the street from Nick's? It used to just be an empty lot when I was there. Just looking at the listing of stores on Crossbay in the '60's, haha. House of Wong, do they still have roaches? Are they still there? I guess our memories get a little fuzzy after a while. There was no Glickman's kosher deli, it was Glick's kosher meats on the same block as King George. Also, the kosher deli was on the same block as Rockwood hairstylists. It was called Wolfman's and it was great! Home Federal bank was on the same street as Kind George and it was across from Meats and Treats. Knew a few people who worked in Meats and Treats, great little store. I remember where the carnivals used to be, in that empty lot. I remember one in particular, in June of 1962. Was there one night with Bobby Pomerico. Won some plastic elephants which I still have to this day.

The reason I remember the chinese laundry before it was Nick's pizza was my brother used to run in there on the way to school and annoy them. Very bad!!!
