Meredith Lynn grew up in Howard Beach. She's appeared in many tv shows, and movies, including: Forces of Nature, Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss, and Night at the Roxbury. She's doing very well for herself from what I hear from Andrew Colon (who still hangs out with her out in L.A.) Anthony Ferreri

Definately Arlo Guthrie....he trys to get there every time he is down that way. I met Arlo online in an old Queens forum and he invited me to his concert at Carnegie Hall one Novemeber a couple of years ago. He is certainly proud to be a HB'er! Annette (Gunnels) Garkowski

My sister baby sat for Jay and he used to come around "our corner" as he walked his dog and sing doo woop song with us. Great times for sure! Edited by - Howie M on September 17 2003 12:43:33 PM

Someone above mentioned Louis Prima. Let's not forget his lovely wife, Keely Smith. She is still performing and cutting records (CDs) Check her out at Tower with her CD of Sinatra songs. You won't be sorry.

***That's Jeffrey Nathan, co-owner of two successful kosher Abigael's restaurants, author of a soon-to-be-released cookbook, sponsor of a line of kosher frozen foods and host of a hit national TV show. ”I feel like I'm at the top of a peak and I don't want to fall down,” says Nathan, his accent flavored with the thick drawl of Howard Beach, Queens, where he grew up . . . *** Does anyone remember Jeffrey Nathan from the neighborhood o Edited by - Hillary on December 03 2003 09:02:01 AM

Around 1959-1960 Meir Kahane lived in Rockwood Park and was rabbi of the short-lived Howard Beach Jewish Center. The community considered him to be a too radical and asked him to leave.

Sorry about the extra message, but apparently the software didn't like me and I had to reregister and then it wiped the message I had created. In any event, yes, Meier Kahane was hired by the membership of the HBJC as our Rabbi. The children feared him. He would incite them to rebel against their parents for not being observant Jews. A really terrible person and I wasn't surprised at his eventual violent end. However, the HBJC was anything but short lived. The building they originally occupied on 164th Avenue was formerly known as the Japanese Club. I don't remember whether HBJC bought it from the Japanese at the start of World War II or if it was confiscated by the government and we bought it from the government. My late father was president in 1948, the year I was Bar Mitzvah. HBJC moved to Rockwood Park sometime in the late 60's or early 70's, and as far as I know they're still there.
